Introducing Rylee + Cru x Pottery Barn Kids

Designed by Kelli Larson, now at Pottery Barn Kids.

At Rylee + Cru, every print begins as a hand-painted illustration, inspired by the wonder of childhood and the beauty found in everyday moments.

For years, founder and creative director Kelli Larson has created collections designed to be loved through seasons of growing up. Now, in partnership with Pottery Barn Kids, those signature prints find a new expression. Bringing warmth, imagination, and a sense of whimsy into the spaces little ones call their own.

From nurseries to playrooms and bedrooms, this collection is thoughtfully designed to fill childhood spaces with beauty, comfort, and stories waiting to unfold.

Q+A

Q. Rylee + Cru has become known for its beautiful balance of whimsy, simplicity, and storytelling. How did you translate that signature aesthetic from children's apparel into a home collection?

A. For us, it was about bringing the feeling of Rylee + Cru into the spaces where childhood memories are made. Our apparel has always been rooted in soft palettes, hand-drawn artwork, and a sense of wonder, so translating that into home felt very natural. We thought about the textures, prints, and little details that could make a nursery or child’s room feel calm, imaginative, and deeply personal. The collection carries the same spirit as our clothing...whimsical but timeless.

Q. What was the initial spark behind partnering with Pottery Barn Kids, and why did this collaboration feel like the right fit for the brand at this moment?

A. For me, Pottery Barn Kids has always felt synonymous with heirloom quality and timeless design. They are such a trusted name for creating beautiful, meaningful spaces for children, so the partnership felt like a natural extension of the Rylee + Cru world. As the brand has grown, we’ve loved seeing families connect with Rylee + Cru beyond just what their children wear. This collaboration gave us the opportunity to help shape the rooms where children grow, play, read, and dream. It felt like the right moment to expand our storytelling into the home in a way that still felt thoughtful, elevated, and true to who we are.

Q. Can you walk us through the creative process behind the collection? Were there any particular memories, places, or inspirations that influenced the designs?

A. For this collection, we were drawn to the idea of a storybook space - something soft, nostalgic, and full of little details for children to discover over time. I pulled from my own childhood memories of spending summers at my grandmother’s cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Nature is always a big source of inspiration for me, so you’ll see woodland animals, bunnies, foxes, florals, and gentle earth tones throughout the collection. I also thought a lot about the sweetness of childhood rooms and what makes them feel special — the favorite blanket, the cozy reading corner, the stuffed animal they carry everywhere. We wanted every piece to feel like it could become part of a family’s everyday rituals and memories.

Q. Your designs often evoke a sense of nostalgia. How do you create products that feel timeless rather than trend-driven?

A. I try to design from a place of emotion rather than trend. The pieces I’m most drawn to are the ones that feel like they could have existed in another time but still feel fresh today. That usually means soft colors, natural textures, vintage-inspired prints, and details that feel quiet yet intentional. With this collection, we wanted everything to feel warm and familiar.  Pieces that could live beautifully in a nursery or child’s room now, but also be saved, passed down, and loved again.

Q. As both a designer and a mother, how has your perspective on family life influenced the way you approached this collection?

A. Motherhood has shaped so much of the way I design. I’m always thinking about beauty, but also about comfort, function, and the emotional connection families have to the things they use every day. Children’s rooms are such special spaces.  They hold bedtime routines, quiet mornings, imaginative play, and so many little moments that become memories. I wanted this collection to feel beautiful for parents, but also soft, comforting, and magical for children.
