As we center our efforts in supporting and protecting mothers and children, and in helping families thrive in our communities, we at The Rylee + Cru Foundation are excited to share with you our January 2025 Grant Recipient - kNot Today. We are inspired by their work advocating for children who have fallen into sexual abuse. Below is a brief Q&A with Marketing Manager, Shelby Thomas.
Q&A
Q: What is kNot Today’s primary mission and overall vision?
A: kNot Today’s mission is to generate awareness and initiate prevention strategies to end sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking of children. We strive to bring about a world that cherishes and protects every child.
Q: When was kNot Today founded and what inspired its founding?
A: Former NFL coach and quarterback Frank Reich and his wife Linda founded kNot Today in 2019 after witnessing the devastating reality of child trafficking and abuse while moving from coast to coast. Having children and grandchildren of their own, they were compelled to make an impact on behalf of children everywhere.
Q: How is kNot Today raising awareness and involving the community in preventing human trafficking and abuse?
A: kNot Today educates and engages communities on this ongoing epidemic through educational guides for parents, caregivers, and educators. We know that education is the first step to prevention, so we aim to equip community members with the knowledge and tools they need to help protect children.
Q: What programs or services does kNot Today offer? How have you seen these programs make a difference?
A: kNot Today works to unify child sexual abuse prevention efforts across a state through coalition-building, grant making, and law enforcement support. We believe we are stronger when we work together, rowing the same boat in the same direction, to keep children safe from abuse and exploitation. While we don’t directly serve survivors, our work helps community organizations build their capacity to engage in prevention efforts, support survivors, and create lasting impact.
Q: If someone wanted to get involved in helping to prevent human trafficking and abuse, where should they start?
A: If you’re passionate about protecting children from sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking, the first step is education! Sign up for our newsletter, follow our social channels, and visit knottoday.org to learn more.
