It's true to size. I'd size up if you are toward the tallest side of each sizing. Youngest (37") is wearing 4-5Y and we will probably exchange with 2-3Y. Oldest (49") is wearing 8-9Y with room to grow, but 6-7Y was a bit short. It's not thick and perfect for cooler nights.
